Cleaning Stained Curtains Without Taking them Down

The off-white cotton, lined and custom-made curtains at the harbor had water stains on them after years of use. To take them all down and dry-cleaned would have been an incredible pain, and very expensive. I thought about soaking the bottom halves in big garbage buckets of Oxiclean solution, but I knew they would wick the liquid and get very heavy and drippy very fast. Through an internet search I learned a 2:1 solution of water and hydrogen peroxide sprayed on worked for other people. There were some slightly differing opinions on whether this would ultimately weaken the cotton fabric, but as they were aged already, I thought treating the stains was preferable to worrying about slightly weakening the fabric. I used a spray bottle and over the course of several days sprayed numerous applications of the solution. Some of the fabric lightened just a bit, but not so much that it was really noticeable. Many of the stains were much improved, if not completely gone, and with little effort and $0.88, it was a quick solution.
